After two week's vacation, this car project enters the final stages near completion. The front fenders, known as cycle wings, attach to wing stays above the front suspension. The Assembly Guide calls for drilling holes in the wings and stays, and attaching with screws. I decided to use an alternate method that gives a cleaner appearance. Instead of using screws, fittings called Footman's Straps were bonded to the wings before painting and undercoating, shown above. Cable ties hold the wings to the stays with a bit of foam and carpet tape between the cable ties and stays. This method of attachment is somewhat controversial, but some builders swear by it. The inexpensive straps and adhesive were sourced from a marine suppler.
